because?

  1. Laziness
  2. Contractor had 30 Years of Experience.
  3. Rushing to the next job.
  4. Carelessness
  5. Forgot
  6. Ground 'looked' level enough
  7. Did not measure in the middle of the form
with a string for a level
  8. Did not want to spend the extra minute
to measure the middle of the form area with a
Mason Line Nylon string that costs $5 dollars.
  9. All of the above

ANSWER: h. All of the above.

The correct way to see if you have the proper thickness throughout the concrete slab, (e.g. driveway, sidewalk, patio, etc.) before the pour is to measure the two ends at where the string is tied AND also the MIDDLE of the form area.

The MIDDLE of the form area is where a small difference, say, 5 inches as opposed to 4 inches, can cause a 20 percent difference in the amount of concrete needed.
